Fishes of Japan(Nakabo, 2002)
Character: Body elongate, depressed. Head extremely depressed. Preopercular spine straight with 5-6 very short processes on inner side. In males, 1st dorsal spines elongate and filamentous; vertral sidae of body with many small dark spots; tips of vertral side of lower jaw black; anal fin uniformly pale dark. In females, 1st dorsal-fin membrane between 2nd to 4th with a black blotch; anal fin uniformly white. 
Habitat: Inhabits shallow sandy bottoms. 
Distribution: Distributed in the western Pacific, including Ryukyu Islands, Viet Nam, Gulf of Thailand, Indonesia, and northern Australia. It is found in Penghu Islands. 
Utility: Aquarium fishes.
