Character: Dorsal-fin rays 95-100; anal-fin rays 74-80; caudal-fin rays 7-8. Mid-lateral line scales 73-96. Lips on eyed side of head distinctly fringed with labial papillae. Two lateral lines on ocular side. Rostral hook shorter, reaching only to hind margin of lower eye; scales between upper and middle lateral lines 15-16 longitudinal series. 
Habitat: Found on mud and sand bottoms of the continental shelf. Feeds predominantly on bottom-living invertebrates.  
Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: southern Oman, India, Indonesia and Philippines. Taiwan: South, Hsiaoliuchiu, Penghu, North, East, North-East, West. 
Utility: Commercial fishery species.
