Character: Head large, rounded; skin rather loose, covered with numerous dermal spinules; illicium very short, not easy to see; illicial groove dark pigmented, strongly concave to form a deep trough; esca dark anterodorsally and white posteroventrally, bearing with numerous dermal appendages, hidden in the illicial groove; second and third dorsal spine embedded under skin; small dermal flap or filaments present on edge of body, chin and lower maxilla, numerous around illicial groove and above orbit; gill-opening above and behind the pectoral lobe; body orange to reddish with yellow vermiculation, white below; some deep reddish saddle-like band on dorsal. 
Habitat: It has a benthic inhabits found on continental shelves and slopes. Taken at 280-350m depth or less. Using the stalked pectoral and pelvic fins to across the bottom. First dorsal spine modified into a long rod with a lure at the end to attract preys. 
Distribution: Widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific from Japan to east Australia, and Africa. It is very common species in northeast Taiwan off Suao. 
Utility: Large one as fresh sea food, mostly no commercial value.
