形態特徵：

體延長而呈圓柱狀，尾部側扁。吻圓；上、下頜略呈鉤狀。牙齒皆為尖牙狀，牙略彎勾；頜齒2-3列，頜間齒3列，鋤骨齒單列，下頜前側頜齒雙列。脊椎骨數124-127。體色暗紫褐色；魚體表有許多黃白色斑點，愈靠近頭部黃白斑點愈稠密，尾部的黃白斑點分布較疏；軀幹有3-4列頭尾方向規則排列的較大紫黑圓斑；口內的斑點形式和體表類似；眼虹彩橘黃色；尾部末端略呈白色。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於珊瑚礁平台和斜坡深度 1-15 m 處。喜歡捕食魚類。體腔中、皮膚下層及腸繫膜上經常可發現有多量線蟲寄生。成熟卵巢呈黃色。

地理分布：

廣泛分布於印度-太平洋的熱帶海域。在臺灣見於基隆、澳底、南方澳、成功、小琉球、澎湖等地。

利用：

一般可利用延繩釣、手釣等漁法捕獲。可食用或飼養玩賞。
