形態特徵：

體長圓而側扁。頭大。吻長。眼大。D. VII-I，9；A. II，8； P. 14； Ll. 28；Pred.S. 3-4；GR. 5-6+13-15；BD. 3.0，HL.2.6-2.9 in SL；ED. 2.5-2.8；SnL. 3.98-4.9 in HL。體色多變，一般為白色至灰白色，體側有五條黃銅色至暗褐色水平狹帶，其寬度均較兩眼間距為短。尾柄有一圓點，其大小約等於瞳孔。第一條狹帶延伸至第二背鰭基底，而第五條狹帶則延伸到臀鰭軟條基部，第一背鰭除了第III硬棘有些黑色素散布外，其餘部份透明。Apogon angustatus為同種異名。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於面海側的礁石區，從礁盤的外緣至深達65公尺處。白天停留在岩礁下方或洞穴內，晚上則外出覓食多毛類以及其它小型底棲無脊椎動物。

地理分布：

分布於印度-太平洋區，西起東非、紅海，東至萊恩群島，北至臺灣，南迄新加勒多尼亞。臺灣主要分布於西南部、南部、東部、綠島及蘭嶼等海域。

利用：

通常以下雜魚處理，用作魚飼料，有時會曬成小魚乾自家食用，並無任何經濟價值。
