形態特徵：

體長圓而側扁。頭大。吻長。眼大。D. VI-I，9；A. II，8；Lb. 25；Tr. 2/6 ；Pred.S. 7-8 ；GR. (0-1)1-2+1+6-7(3-4)。活魚體色透明而具二條灰色狹帶，然除了眼到胸鰭基底和尾柄的部份外，大部份狹帶色淡或不明顯。死後體色變紅，而狹帶呈灰黑色。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於礁石或碎石區。白天棲息極其隱密，躲於礁石縫穴間。以浮游動物或其它底棲無脊椎動物為食。

地理分布：

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起紅海至南非，東至臺灣、琉球群島及日本西部。臺灣分布於南部及小琉球海域。
