形態特徵：

體長圓而側扁。頭大。吻長。眼大。 D. VII-I，9；A. II，8；P. 15-16；Ll. 36-28；GR. 1+1+7-9。體呈淡褐至黃褐色，體側具3-4條寬橫帶，眼後具一寬斜帶延伸至胸鰭基部前之頰部上，其下方另有一細斜帶。本魚種和薩摩亞聖天竺鯛(Nectamia savayensis)相似，唯本種魚鰓耙數較少(總數9-11)且腹鰭為不透明之暗綠色，與薩摩亞天竺鯛具有20以上之鰓耙及透明之腹鰭有明顯之差異。Apogon timorensis為同種異名。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於礁石頂冠處、礁盤的巨石下方及潟湖區等。以浮游動物或其它底棲無脊椎動物為食。

地理分布：

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起紅海至南非，東至臺灣、日本及澳洲等西太平洋海域。臺灣分布於南部海域。
