形態特徵：

體長圓而側扁。頭大。眼大。前鰓蓋骨骨化不完全，外緣平滑，上主上頜骨變形。前鼻孔帶有瓣膜。側線完全，且延長到尾鰭，後部側線鱗細長；體被大櫛鱗22-24。無鋤骨齒。尾鰭圓。D. VII+I，9；A. II，8；P. 16；C. 3-4，8+7，3-4；GR. 14-15 Ll. 25；Head 2.3-2.5 in JSL；Depth 2.6-2.8；Eye 3.8-4.0 in head。第一背鰭後部有大圓斑；背鰭、臀鰭之邊緣白。從眼腹緣到前鰓蓋角有一寬暗帶；另一條狹帶則從眼後緣到側線起點。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於近岸之珊瑚礁區或潟湖。以浮游動物或其它底棲無脊椎動物為食。

地理分布：

分布於印度-太平洋區，西起東非至莫三比克，東至土木土群島，北至臺灣、日本，南迄澳洲大堡礁及拉帕。臺灣分布於南部、小琉球、北部及綠島等。
