形態特徵：

體橢圓，高而側扁。前鰓蓋脊平滑，邊緣呈鋸齒狀。側線完全，延長到尾鰭。具鋤骨齒。臀鰭基底長；尾鰭頂端微凹。胸腔及肛門附近有發光器。D. VI-I，9；A. II，14-17； P. 14；Ll. 25；HL. 2.6；BD. 2.7 in SL；ED. 3.24； SnL. 6.0in HL。體背部淡白而透明，腹部銀白，體側不具任何縱帶或橫帶，尾柄具小斑點。原記載之龔氏長鰭天竺鯛(Archamia goni)為其同種異名。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於沿岸、紅樹林沼澤區或較深之砂泥底質海域。群居性，以浮游動物或其它底棲無脊椎動物為食。

地理分布：

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起非洲東岸至杜拜，東至阿曼灣、印度、斯里蘭卡、新加坡、泰國、印尼、臺灣及澳洲等西太平洋海域。臺灣分布於南部及西南部海域。
