形態特徵：

體小型，狹長而側扁；側線不完全，僅延伸至第一背鰭基底後下方。腭骨無齒。D. VII-I，9； A. II，8； P. 14； Ll. p. 9；GR. 3+12 (developed GR. 1+1+5)；HL. 2.64；BD. 2.77 in SL；SnL 4.7 and ED. 4.22 in HL. 。體褐色至紅褐色，體側有10條暗紅色橫帶，眼部後緣另具數條不顯著之輻射紋；鰓蓋具一大白色緣之眼斑；各鰭為紅色是本種魚之主要特徵。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於礁石底質水域，同時也出現在珊瑚和藻類叢生的碎石坡水域，以浮游動物或其它底棲無脊椎動物為食。

地理分布：

分布於印度-太平洋區，西起紅海至莫三比克，東至萊恩、馬貴斯及社會群島，北至臺灣、日本，南迄澳洲大堡礁。臺灣分布於小琉球海域。
