形態特徵：

體型類似巨齒天竺鯛屬(Cheilodipterus)的魚，區別在於第一背鰭具有7根棘(相對於巨齒天竺鯛屬的6根) ；上下頜皆具銳利的犬齒。身體於側線下中央的部位具有一條深褐色的縱向斑紋，死後不顯著，尾鰭基底另具一條暗褐色橫帶。Coranthus polyacanthus為同種異名。

棲所生態：

主要棲息於礁體斜坡，深度可達150公尺。單獨生活、配對或成一小群生活。以小魚、甲殼類等為食。

地理分布：

分布於印度-太平洋區海域。臺灣發現於臺東八嗡嗡及屏東後壁湖海域。

利用：

通常以下雜魚處理，並無食用經濟價值。
