Character: Dorsal rays 12; anal rays 7; pectoral rays 10. Body deep, globose, slightly compressed; mouth oblique to vertical; gill open small, behind and below pectoral-fin base; skin covered with close-set dermal spinules; illicium elongated, about twice length of second spine; esca broad, with a pennant-like flap and some filaments and cirri; anterior end of pterygiophore posterior to symphysis of upper jaw; membrane of second dorsal spine and cross area between second and third dorsal spine completely covered with dermal spinules; body lemon yellow in color with many reddish-brown variable size spots on posterior hale including dorsal fin, anal fin and caudal fin, never present on belly; pectoral fin rays tip white; caudal peduncle present; all pectoral fin rays simple.  
Habitat: It inhabits shallow sheltered reefs. Adults usually with sponges; juveniles openly on sand or reef, mimicking small sponges or nudibranchs. Always using the stalked pectoral and pelvic fins to slowly walk across the bottom. First dorsal spine highly modif 
Distribution: Widely distributed throughout Indo-Pacific oceans. In Taiwan, it occurs in the western off Ponghu. 
Utility: No commercial value.
