Character: Dorsal-fin rays VII-I, 9; anal-fin rays II, 8; pectoral-fin rays 14. Maxillary reaching to below the center of pupil; small canine teeth on both jaws; dorsal fin reaching to the origin of anal fin when depressed; body except the black snout generally reddish brown and orangish ventrally; the first dorsal spine and the upper part of the membrane between third and fourth spines black; caudal fin forked.  
Habitat: Found in clear coastal and outer reefs, juveniles in harbors, boulder rock and usually in small aggregations. Feeds on zooplankton and other small benthic invertebrates. 
Distribution: Indo-Pacific. 
Utility: No commercial value.
