Character: Dorsal fin with VIII-VIII and 11-12 soft rays; anal fin with 12 soft rays; pectoral fin with 15 soft rays; lateral line scales 57-64; gill rakers 2+8; vertebrae 9-10+17-18. Rostral projection large and strong, triangular. No spines around orbit; nasal spine present, opercular spine short, nuchal spine long, rostral spines strong but short, antrorse rostral spine present, and cleithral spine long. Base of first dorsal fin with 10 flat plates, first plate extends in advance of first dorsal-fin spine. Lateral line scales small, more than 70 rows. Red in color. 
Habitat: Inhabit demersal marine deep-water environment, depth range 250-500m. Attains 35 cm TL. Rare species. 
Distribution: Western Pacific: Japan southward to Taiwan, eastward to Saipan. Also reported from New Caledonia. Including the Kyushu-Palau Ridge, East China Sea, and Saigon. 
Utility: Rare species, not commercial food species.
