Character: A moderate-sized, slender-bodied, narrow-headed six gill shark. Head pointed. Eyes large. Lower jaw with 5 rows of large, comblike teeth on each side, these with relatively long cusps. Caudal peduncle long and slender, distance from dorsal insertion to upper caudal origin at least twice the length of dorsal fin base. 
Habitat: A uncommon, deepwater shark species. Ovoviviparous, number of embryos 13. Maximum size is about 180 cm in TL, size at maturity estimated to be about 43 cm. Females mature at 142-178 cm, males at 123-157. 
Distribution: Western North Atlantic including Bahamas, northern Cuba, Nicaragua and Cost Rica. Eastern Atlantic including Gibraltar, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. Indian Ocean including southern Africa, Aldabra Island, Madagascar and Kenya. Western Pacific including Taiwan 
Utility: Usually taken by line gear and trawls. Stock size very limited and of relatively slight importance to fisheries.
