Character: A houndshark with a moderately long parabolic snout, broadly arched mouth, eyes slitlike and narrowly elongated, subocular ridges prominent, external nictitating lower eyelids present, teeth compressed with oblique cusps and distal cusplets in both jaws, 1st dorsal fin somewhat longer than 2nd dorsal fin but much shorter than caudal, 1st dorsal origin usually behind pectoral rear tips, anal fin much smaller than 1st dorsal fin, fins with conspicuous white edges. Total vertebral counts 154-165. 
Habitat: A common continental temperate to subtropical shark in the western North Pacific, occurring close inshore and offshore down to at least 100 m depth. Ovoviviparous, without a yolk-sac placenta. Number of young per litter 8-22, with about equal numbers per  
Distribution: This is a common species founded in Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese and probably Chinese waters. Usually caught by gillnets, bottom longlines and bottom trawls; flesh used for human consumption. 
Utility: Caught by trawl, gill net, or long-line. Utilized fresh for human consumption and it's fin process to shark fin soup.
